I provide compassionate counseling services to individuals. My theoretical approach embraces how I see change occurring. Foremost, I believe that counseling comprises a relationship between two units, me as the counselor and you as the client. I strive to create a nonjudgmental, warm, and caring environment. I strongly believe in our power to create change for ourselves. This first comes with genuinely embracing and loving oneself. This is rooted in person-centered therapy.
I also believe in the power of our cognition and the direct link between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This approach is called cognitive-behavioral therapy. Once the protective environment and relationship have been established, I work with my clients from this perspective. I help my clients examine the relationship between their core beliefs, thoughts, emotions and the effect it has on their behaviors. In addition, I integrate various techniques and ideas connected to self-compassion, mindfulness, and emotional regulation. With time, one can regain control of one’s life and make the changes supportive of flourishing, serenity, and growth.
Helping clients with a variety of concerns, including:

I see individual clients ages 14 and up. I am an approved provider for Aetna, BCBS, Tricare, GEHA, Magellan, and United/Optum. Please feel free to contact me at 210-660-7122 to see if I have availability for new clients and whether or not I take your specific insurance or via email at melissa@melissaalvaradolpc.com. Please note that at this time, I am not accepting new clients.
After an initial office visit, distance counseling can be provided using a safe, HIPAA-secure platform through the therapy portal. This works just like a face-to-face session but from the convenience of your home or office. Many insurances cover this modality. Please note that you must reside in Texas.
My private pay rate is $150 for the initial intake (approximately 75 minutes) and $120 per clinical hour session (approximately 50 minutes). I have some openings to offer reduced rates due to financial hardship.
I accept cash, checks, and credit cards as forms of payment.
