I have over twenty years of experience working in the counseling field. I have a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and an MA in Community Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with approved Supervisor status in Texas, and I work with older children, teens, and adults. I am also an Associate Professor at St. Edward’s University in the Department of Counseling. I have been a professor since 2009. In 2015, I acquired my Registered Yoga Teacher Certificate (RYT-200). For some people, yoga can complement the work they do in counseling- I am always happy to discuss how this could be done for you.
Most of my clinical experience has been providing counseling services to survivors of trauma. My experience in this area arose from working at different community agencies in Nueces and Bexar counties. Past trauma including but not limited to loss, abuse, and violence can have long-term effects on individuals, it is my goal to help individuals heal from the past and develop the skills that will promote their ability and right to flourish.
I also have experience working with older children and adolescents. I often integrate play and expressive arts; these are essential in counseling youth. Play and art allow self-expression in a non-intimidating environment. As an adolescent, I feel I have the natural ability to relate to this unique population. Teens need a place to feel comfortable, understood, and not judged. The adolescent years are often characterized by turmoil, conflict, and a sense of identity loss. My job is to provide a confidential, safe environment to help guide the teen to a place where they feel comfortable.

On a personal note, Austin is my new home, having relocated from San Antonio. I am an avid runner, and in the Fall and winter, you will often find me training. Half marathons are my favorite race distance. In addition to running, I practice yoga for my personal and professional well-being.
